Mapping

You are required to make one (or more) plane map by SuperMap software with free topic selection. You can create a unique thematic map through data processing and mapping based on multiple data resources. It will be an opportunity to show your ability of geographic information processing and visual expression.

General Requirements

1. Works must be original and conform to the open source rules. The copyright always belongs to the original author while the Contest Committee has the right to make public.

2. All the participants should be responsible for the copyright. If works involve reference or quote, please indicate at the end of the reports. Otherwise, the Contest Committee will hold the right to cancel the awards and withdraw the bonuses and certificates of prizes due to infringement reasons.

Software

All the works must be base on SuperMap iDesktop or SuperMap iDesktopX with the version of 10i or above.

Data

1. The data used in the entries can be the map data published by nations or relevant organizations, or the big data or other source data provided by Internet enterprises.

2. Please ensure the legitimacy of the data source and the right of using and releasing data.

3. The map content shall conform to the relevant policies and laws of each country, and shall fully represent the territory of each country.

Mapping

1. Maps should be attractive, professional and with strong visual appeal.

2. Map display should be smooth. The performance of map display affects the user experience directly, which is one of the important indicators of the map.

Judging Criteria

Item Requirement
Topic Selection (10) Innovative Topic Selection, Reflecting Contemporary Themes.
Each sub-map is closely related in theme, collectively supporting the overall topic.
Data (10) Use standardized data, such as national borders and provincial boundaries.
Data processing is appropriately detailed and matches the map scale.
The data coordinate system is set correctly.
Map (45) Point symbols, line symbols, fill symbols, and other resources are meticulously crafted, with a symbol library established for the project.
The selection of thematic map types is appropriate, and the production is accurate.
The map colors should be soft, aesthetically pleasing, and in line with industry standards and conventions.
Include necessary text labels that are concise, neat, and clear.
Layout (15) The layout should be rich in elements, working in harmony with the map to effectively present the final result.
The layout features a rational configuration of elements, clear hierarchy, and overall aesthetic appeal.
Showcase of Works (10) The documentation is clearly described, with concise charts that effectively illustrate the data organization and the map-making process.
The video commentary highlights the standout features of the work, with clear articulation and logical coherence.

Submission

1. All the files required need to be submitted as compressed files in .ZIP format.

2. Structure of submission files (Items marked with * are optional for submission):

   2.1. Raw Data: Collected statistical tables, images, textual materials, etc.

   2.2. Output Data: File-based data sources and file-based workspaces, etc.

   2.3. Project Presentation: Final map (or atlas) result images. It is recommended to output each map as a separate image. If there are animated maps, please submit the animations.

   2.4. Project Documentation

        2.4.1. Cartography Report: DOC format. The document content includes but is not limited to the following information:

            2.4.1.1. Topic Background (Background of the topic, cartographic approach)

            2.4.1.2. Data Design (mapping technical process, atlas content system, map layout, and color system design)

            2.4.1.3. Data Description (Description of raw data and result data)

            2.4.1.4. Cartographic Process (Map style settings, layout design, etc.)

            2.4.1.5. Map Performance Optimization

            2.4.1.6. Summary (Problems encountered, insights from cartography, etc.)

        2.4.2. Instructor Evaluation Report*: DOC format, concise and clear, 200-500 words.

   2.5. Demostration and Explanation

        2.5.1. Demostration Video: MP4 format, with clear visuals and audio commentary.

        2.5.2. Presentation Slides: the PPT file used in the presentation video.
